Take me to the beach and let’s shoot!!!! What a fun change of pace this was from the traditional Arizona landscape… don’t get me wrong, I love a good AZ landscape session, but this was so enjoyable! Toes in the sand, beautiful weather, stunning views… it was such a treat to travel out to Newport to work with this beautiful family.
What is so interesting about shooting at the beach: is that I don’t have anything to filter the sunlight! As you’ll notice, even in the Arizona desert, I often utilize a tree or even a cactus to filter or at least block the direct sun to create that light, glowy backlight. So here at the beach with nothing but an open horizon of ocean, it took some positioning and re-positioning to find that sweet spot. I ultimately positioned the family with the sun at an angle to their back-right to give that same light and airy look while maintaining the integrity of skin tones and even light.
There was much to celebrate during this session: adult birthday’s, an engagement, and a first birthday! We were able to capture several different occasions while they gathered for a beach weekend to celebrate all of the happenings!
Now having had the opportunity to now shoot at the beach in California, the Hamptons, and now Florida – I am dying to get back out to the beach to photograph some more. Nothing quite like a beach photo session!
