Mommy & The Boys At the Meadow in Mesa, AZ

This mommy & me session will happily live rent free in my head for as long as I live... but really, I absolutely love everything about this session and the whole gallery!! Mommy & me sessions are close to my heart and some of my favorite sessions to create... I love how we can play around with florals, locations, props, and outfits but what I love the most is the genuine connection of the kiddos spending time with momma.

In most of my sessions, I act as more of a director vs. documenter. Allow me to explain...

As a director, I guide my clients through a series of poses and prompts to help achieve certain images. As a documenter, I would simply stand back and capture my subjects in whatever form they are being while interacting during our session. Both styles can achieve beautifully unique, and even traditional images depending on what the client is looking for. Most often, I direct my clients through a series of poses & prompts while guiding them with tips and suggestions as we go. There are a few specific sessions, like a Mommy & Me, where I love to add moments of the documentary style where I simply stand back and capture truly candid moments between the littles and their mama. During this particular session, I spent about 95% of the session as a documenter, allowing mom and the boys to just interact and and simply be themselves as I moved around them to capture the special memories. Documentary style photography, though it's not for everyone, is one of my favorite ways to capture genuine and candid images. Mommy & me sessions are often a time where this style works really, really well!
